After a successful first year, the Hermès Corporate Foundation renews the partnership with the Academy of Bordeaux and the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron
The program Manufacto, what is it?
“Manufacto, the knowhow factory” is a program of the Hermès Corporate Foundation dedicated to the discovery of crafts in a school environment. This program is motivated by the will to enhance the crafts knowhow associated with the jobs of carpentry, leather work, saddlery and plastering towards the public.
This year, 3 classes participate to this program in Nontron with new objects to create. The Academy of Bordeaux has seized the opportunity and 2 classes start the program in the department of Gironde. The Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts is coordinator of the program Manufacto in Dordogne.
What is forecasted in 2021-22 for the pupils of Nontron?
The pupils will benefit from 24 hours of workshops divided in 12 sessions. They will be accompanied by an arts and crafts professional and will realize objects drawn by designers. In these sessions, they will visit a craft workshop and present their work during a restitution.
This is with enthusiasm that Laurence Girard, furniture upholsterer, will share for the second year her knowhow with a class of the high-school Alcide-Dusolier. They will create a ghetto blaster cushion. In the school Anatole-France two classes will beneficiate from this program. One class will realise animal purses in leather with Nathalie Marbouty, leather worker in the “maroquinerie nontronnaise” – already involved last year. The other class will discover the technics of wood work while making a toolbox with the cabinetmaker Alexander Hay.
Three assistants, chosen among the designers – students of the Post-master “design of the rural worlds” of the National School of Decorative Arts of Paris – will accompany the different projects of realisation.
Weekly sessions of two hours will form the pattern of the school year before discovering the final result!
