The castle of Nontron is closed during the works of restoration, our exhibition rooms are currently closed but the program of the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts is still rich.
The Arts and crafts shop is located in the following address 5 rue Carnot in Nontron. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and to 2 to 6 pm.
We have thought and conceived a program focused on the public – especially scholars, the actions in partnership, the actions outside while pursuing our missions on leading actions of promotion and awareness to the arts and crafts.
Residence of arts and crafts creators in the Regional Nature Reserve Périgord-Limousin
in partnership with the Regional Nature Reserve Perigord-Limousin,
within the scope of the « Project of valorisation of roaming of the Massif central region by artists residences and modern creations » of the IPAMAC (association of Regional Nature Reserves of the Massif central region).
The Nature Reserve considers to acquire nine arts and crafts creations after a residence in order to settle them on the walking roaming of the ”Grande Boucle”, a roaming of 200 km.
In order to do so, the Nature Reserve, the IPAMAC and the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron are settling a residence of arts and crafts creators around a collective project of research, conception and creation.
Nine creators, arts and crafts professionals with various knowhow and universes, will conceive collectively in a residence a proposition of valorisation of the roaming and the Occitan culture which represent the arts and crafts creation of the Périgord-Limousin region. They will be accompanied to reach this objective by the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron.
The Pole will animate and coordinate the residence which will give rise to the production of a global project and the delivery of 9 files which will allow the realization of orders of creations in a second time.
The collective project will be the subject of an exhibition which will recount the residence and the work of research. The commission of this exhibition will be managed by the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts with the help of the creators selected for the residence.
Faire des histoires – Related and musical restitution
Friday February 2, 6 pm, Salle des Fêtes of Nontron.
In partnership with the Multimedia libraries network of the Périgord-Nontronnais, the Activity centre ALSH L’Oasis, the CLAP, the Cinema Louis-Delluc, the “Relais Petite Enfance”, the primary schools of the nontronnais terrytory, the high school of Nontron.
At the same time work of art, support to tell and imagine stories, tool of mediation and awareness to the arts and crafts knowhow, « Faire des histoires » gathers 5 thematic boards realized by 5 craftswomen (the vegetables by Céline Giry – ceramist, the mineral by Natacha Baluteau – art enameller, the water by Nico Van de Velde – felt worker, the night by Isabelle Bailly – paper sculptor, the architecture by Anne Le Dorlot – clay, wire and paper creator). 5 participative workshops have been proposed the same year with children and adults in order to create characters/faces which animate the creations.
In 2023, the children of primary schools and the high school of Nontron have invented and written stories accompanied by Florence Barteau, from the multimedia library of Nontron. From September to December, a project of several months has been implemented with around ten children of the activity centre L’oasis in Saint-Martial-de-Valette. They have been to the multimedia library each Wednesday. After a presentation of the different boards and technics at the beginning of September with the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts and have chosen one of them. From 7 to 10 years old, they have written a story. At the half of the month of October they have also worked with the cinema Louis Delluc in order to put the tale in movement. They have been initiated to the technic of stopmotion allowing them to create an animation while working image by image. The last sessions have been realized in the activity center with Isabelle Bailly, paper sculptor, around the realization of story boxes. The project « Faire des histoires » continues in 2024 with a public presentation evening of the actions led in 2023 on February 2 2024.
The program :
– Reading of the texts written by the pupils and the children of the activity center by the CLAP (Club of reading with others),
– Projection of the film in stop-motion of the activity center realized in partnership with the cinema Louis Delluc.
– Musical interludes by the Departmental Conservatoire of Dordogne.
– Exhibition of the boards, characters and other realizations.
Professional meetings on the theme of “arts and crafts and built heritage”.
March 2024 in Périgueux
In partnership with the Departmental chamber of trade of the Dordogne and the arts and crafts network of the Grand-bergeracois.
With the support of the Departmental Committee of tourism and the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
The departmental arts and crafts actors wish to organize a time of exchange, of meeting between the owners of built heritage (castles, manors, hostels-restaurants), the prescribers (architects, interior designers, decorators) and the arts and crafts professionals which work on the restauration of built heritage and period furniture (cabinetmakers, furniture upholsterers, stained glass workers…) or in the domain of the architecture and landscape.
The craftsmen will then present their works thanks to booths (photos, samples…).
The day will be punctuated by two round-table discussion with the intervention of professionals and experts (architects of French buildings, specialized journalists…) around themes related to the restauration of the heritage and the interior decoration.

April 4 and 5: demonstrations of arts and crafts professionals towards pupils of the high-school Alcide-Dusolier in Nontron.
April 6: Visit of arts and crafts professionals’ workshops on the territory of the Périgord-Nontronnais.
April 7: Cinematic projection in the cinema Louis Delluc followed by a workshop of felt work and a snack.

Conference-performance and workshops with the sociologist and mime artist Géraldine Moreau
In partnership with the Departmental Cultural Agency Dordogne-Périgord within the scope of its program « Corps ».
The cultural season 2024 of the Departmental Cultural Agency Dordogne-Périgord will be dedicated to the body. The agency associates the Pole in its program related to the works of the researcher Géraldine Moreau.
Conference-performance « Faire corps », Friday May 3, 7 pm in Saint-Estèphe, by Géraldine Moreau and Mathieu Duval.
In partnership with the associative coffee Le Broc branlant and the association Ren’conte à ciel ouvert.
Géraldine Moreau will present her researches around the transmission of the arts and crafts gestures analyzed by the prism of the mime accompanied by teh actor Mathieu Duval, for an unseen conference performance conceived during a residence in the Cultural Agency.
The conference will be followed by an exchange with the public.
The conference-performance will be presented for the first time during the event of closure of the CNRS “Shared anthropology”, which will occur on April 30 in the Hasard Ludique in Paris.
Workshops for the arts and crafts professionals – Around the hand – May-June
“Through the discovery of the physical mime, this workshop proposes to the craftsmen to be cantered on the hand. Their hands. These hands that translate their thoughts and their creative and innovative spirit. These hands-tools to the exceptional technic and knowhow. These hands that have become their signature”.
Adaptations of the propositions to the LEP Porte d’Aquitaine in Thiviers wood and leather sections.
This collaboration is also an opening for a long-distance partnership with Géraldine Moreau on the questions of transmission in the arts and crafts as well as the benefits of sociology in this domain: conferences, seminars, interventions towards different public, cultural research and mediation on the theme of the arts and crafts, the body in the work and gestures.

The Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts, the Departmental Cultural Agency Dordogne-Périgord and the Community of Communes of the Périgord Nontronnais welcome a new designer in residence for a stay of research and creation on the theme “design and arts and crafts”.
The residence in Nontron aims to lead to creations realized in collaboration between a designer and arts and crafts professionals.
The themes foreseen for this future residence in collaboration with arts and crafts professionals are : materials, surfaces, colours and ecological stakes, identity and territory.
Summer exhibition
Despite the difficulties created by the closing of the castle for works, we hope that we will be able to present a collective exhibition for the summer 2024. Several sites are foreseen.
The arts and crafts professionals of the association and the team of the Pole work by the way already on the exhibition for the reopening of the castle.
The “balades métiers d’art et nature”
Summer 2024
In partnership with the Regional Nature Reserve Perigord-Limousin
In summer, the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron will propose again the animation of the “balades métiers d’art et nature”. Each meeting starts with a walk or the discovery of a specific place of the territory guided by an arts and crafts professionals, a botanist, a story teller… and is followed by a workshop of initiation to an arts and crafts knowhow.
These meetings are located in different sites of the Regional Nature Reserve Perigord-Limousin or in the Community of communes of the Périgord Nontronnais and allow to discover the knowhow, the creators, the natural and patrimonial richness of this territory. It is then possible to know more about everything that circles the creation of arts and crafts objects such as the origin of the material, the legends or landscapes that inspire the creators… The practical workshop, often outdoor, is supervised by an arts and crafts professional. Convivial moments to live during a day or an evening.
In family or between adults, it aims to live a moment of sharing 100% local, nature and artistic!

Since 2014, the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts participates to the organizations of forge workshops and works in partnership with the Knife Festival. We will organize at least 3 workshops for every public related to the universe of the cutlery manufacture.
Exhibition « Rue des Métiers d’Art »
14th Exhibition Rue des métiers d’art in Nontron

Rue des Métiers d’Art reunites 30 arts and crafts professionals selected with a required level by our team who has made the choice to favour the quality and the respect of the creators and the public. They propose original creations to the public in the domains of decoration, fashion and culinary arts.
The public will be able to discover rare jobs and creations with a major artistic quality. Leather workers, ceramists, wood turners, cabinetmakers, weavers, clothes creators, glass-blower, mosaicists, enamellers…
For more than 14 years, the Pole invites the public to come to discover the current tendencies in the rural world! A few hours away from big cities, our visitors will be able to discover and acquire objects which are original sustainable, produced locally and adapted to the modern use.

The arts and crafts professionals will propose workshops all along the year 2024. The program will be published for each holiday.

Dispositive managed by the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts, a partnership with the Departmental Cultural Agency of Dordogne- Périgord, the Ministry of National Education (DSDEN 24 and DAAC of the Local Education Authority of Bordeaux), the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron.
This dispositive aims to be continued and developed in the future. The exhibition will be then presented permanently in the castle after its restoration..
– CAE the arts and crafts knowhow (Process of Cultural and Artistic Education)
Dispositive managed by the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts, a partnership with the Ministry of National Education (DSDEN 24 and DAAC of the Local Education Authority of Bordeaux), the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron.
Within the scope of this project, the classes chosen will be able to discover the arts and crafts knowhow, the work on the transformation of the material. They will meet arts and crafts professionals and their creations, they will experiment through the realisation of creations and will visit local workshops or firms.
