The castle of Nontron is closed during the restoration works, as a result, our exhibition rooms are now closed.
The Arts and Crafts Shop has moved, it is now located at 5 rue Carnot in Nontron from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 to 6 pm!
We have thought and conceived a program focused on publics, especially pupils, the actions in partnership and outdoor while pursuing our missions and leading actions of promotion and awareness towards arts and crafts.
The Pole also intervenes as a coordinator on major projects such as the one of the Postmaster – Design of the rural worlds of the National School of Decorative Arts of Paris or the program Manufacto of the Hermès Corporate Foundation in partnership with the Academy of Bordeaux.
« Dialogue(s) between design and arts and crafts. From March 5th to 26th 2022. Salle du minage in PIÉGUT-PLUVIERS
Within the scope of the program « Résidences de l’Art en Dordogne »*, the Departmental Cultural Agency Dordogne-Perigord, in partnership with the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron, invites designers to collaborate with arts and crafts professionals during a stay of research and creation in Nontron. For more than 20 years, these collaborations have led to the emergence of original creations which show the craftsmen knowhow, their gesture and technics, sometimes revisited, creations associated to the one of the designers which bring methods and innovation spirit.
*The program « Résidences de l’Art en Dordogne » is supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs/DRAC Nouvelle Aquitaine, the Departmental Counsel of Dordogne and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
The European Artistic Crafts Days. From March 28th to April 3rd 2022
The theme chosen for this occasion is “Our hands in unison”, this theme is about human and the collaboration in the creation.
“To the discovery of gesture and materials”: demonstrations of knowhow and sales.
From April 1st to 3rd, Nontron.
Program of demonstrations and sales on 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Meeting between the arts and crafts professionals and the public in the city centre of Nontron. The day of Friday will be dedicated to pupils.
Every day, 4 different craftsmen, out of their workshop for the occasion, will come with their tools and raw materials in order to demonstrate their knowhow. They will also propose their production for sale.
The arts and crafts relate a story
6 different arts and crafts professionals will realize a collective project in the multimedia library of Saint-Pardoux-La-Rivière. The objective will be to create a common and collective object which will allow to relate stories. Every craftsman will realize with the public a panel on deposit in the multimedia library. It will be activated by the public (pupils, families…). The project will occur between January and December 2022
The nature and arts and crafts walks
In summer, the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron will now again propose nature and arts and crafts walks. Every meeting starts with a walk or the discovery of a specific place, guided by an arts and crafts professional, a botanist, a storyteller… then, it is followed by a practical workshop, an initiation to arts and crafts knowhow.
These meetings are located on different sites of the Community of Commmunes of the Périgord-Nontronnais or on the Regional Nature Reserve Perigord-Limousin and allow to discover the knowhows, the creators, the natural and patrimonial richness of this territory. It is then possible to learn more about everything which circles the creation of the arts and crafts objects such as the origin of the raw material, the legends or countryside which inspire the creators… The practical workshop, often outdoor, is supervised by an arts and crafts professional. Convivial moments to live during one day or an evening.
In family or between adults, it allows to live a moment of sharing, 100% local, natural and artistic!
26th occasion of the « Fête du Couteau » (Knife show) – August 6th and 7th 2022
This year again, the cradle of the most ancient folding knife of France celebrate the multiple facets of the millennial art of the cutlery manufacture. In Nontron, in the heart of the Perigord region, a hundred cutlery manufacturers, craftsmen, creators and resellers from the entire world come to share their passion with the public.
The Fête du Couteau (Knife show) welcomes renown cutlery manufacturers and also put the spotlight on young talented creators.
You can acquire exceptional knives but also and above all discover the art of the cutlery manufacture throughout numerous animations along the weekend: demonstrations of engraving and forge, installation of a blast furnace…
The previous week of the event, from August 1st to August 5th 2022, a series of internships and workshops for children and families will be proposed. The program of these animations will be communicated in May/June 2022.
A new graphic identity for the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts – Bureau CIME
The Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts will be updated! This year marks the resurgence of the Pole. Indeed, not only the castle which welcomes its exhibition will be renovated, but it will also be given a new graphic identity during this year 2022. The graphic designers Marie Brochier and Thibault Dumain, from Bureau CIME, have been selected and will work on this new identity thanks to a new logo and a new corporate identity and style guide.
Rue des Métiers d’Art
12th Exhibition « Rue des métiers d’art » in Nontron
Event: October 28th, 29th, 30th 2022
Rue des Métiers d’Art reunites 30 arts and crafts professionals selected with a required level by our team who has made the choice to favour the quality and the respect of the creators and the public. They propose original creations to the public in the sectors of decoration fashion and culinary arts.
The public will be able to discover rare jobs and creations with a high artistic quality. Leather workers, ceramists, wood tuners, cabinetmakers, weavers, clothes creators, glass blowers, mosaicists, enamellers, binders…
For more than 12 years, the Pole has invited the public to come to discover the latest tendencies in a rural sector! A few hours away from big cities, our visitors will be able to discover and acquire original and sustainable objects produced locally and adapted to modern use.
To the discovery of the cutlery knowhows!
November 28th – December 2nd 2022, arts and crafts workshops on Nontron – In partnership with the Fête du Couteau.
The PEMA wishes to reinforce its relations and the partnership with the Fête du couteau, especially in the prospect of an annual program and the future animation of the Blade and Metal Space in the castle.
Two leads will be implemented this year:
– the program of workshops towards families in collaboration with the Coutellerie nontronnaise.
– Meetings-workshops with renown cutlery manufacturers. A renown guest will come to present his knowhow and will propose a workshop the following day.

– Manufacto, the knowhow factory, a program of the Hermès Corporate Foundation.
In partnership with the Academy of Bordeaux, the high-school Alcide-Dusolier and the school Anatole-France in Nontron.
– CAE design and arts and crafts (Cultural and Artistic Education Program)
Program led by the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts, a partnership Departmental Cultural Agency Dordogne- Périgord, Ministry of National Education (DSDEN 24 and DAAC of the Local Education Authority of Bordeaux), the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts of Nontron.
Within the scope of this project, the classes which participate and the public will be able to see the exhibition Dialogues – Design and Arts and Crafts which will be presented from March 7th to 25th 2022 in the Salle du Minage in Piégut-Pluviers.
This program aims to continue and be developed in the future. The exhibition will be presented permanently in the castle after its restoration.
