Les chemins de la création, arts and crafts exhibition in Nontron – Extended

The Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts presents its summer exhibition “Les Chemins de la creation” in the Nontron castle. More than 30 arts and crafts objects and exceptional creations will be visible next to drawings, molds, print runs and other steps of realization in order to offer to our visitors an overview of the creative process in the arts and crafts.
“Les Chemins de la creation” reunites around 20 arts and crafts creators who are part of the Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts association around 15 varied knowhow such as the jewel creation, the fabrication of lampshades or lights, the decoration painting, the fabrication of wallpaper, the stone sculpture, the metal wire sculpture, the enamel, the lithography, the engraving, the knife manufacture, the basketworks, the puppet creation, the ceramic… They ally knowhow and creativity in order to create unique items or little series, oscillating between the object and the work of art.
What is the process which gives birth to these art objects? How does the spirit coordinate with the hand? Le ways of creation in the arts and crafts are complex. Tracing the journey from the spirit to the hand is an utopia. However, we have wanted to give an overview on the richness of this journey while exposing some steps visible next to the final work.
As a result, drawings, trials, models, molds, preliminary drafts, intermediary steps of sculpture, or modeling, items before firing or finishing steps, print runs allow us to apprehend the complexity of the arts and crafts professionals’ knowhow.
The creation in the arts and crafts is before all a matter of time, a work in the length allying intelligence and gesture.
The exhibition “Les Chemins de la creation” will unveil this creative process : a living creation, a look on the creative process, the temporality of the gesture and the way of the spirit.

This exhibition is presented for the 20 years of the Nontron Experimental Pole of Arts and Crafts.
For its 20 years the Pole is being rejuvenating ! Indeed, the works of renovation for the castle will start in September. Consequently, we have proposed to the arts and crafts professionals of our association a last collective exhibition before the works and a probable closure for several months.
